Director of Children’s Ministries

Job Description:

The Director of Children’s Ministries (DCM) will work to encourage, catechize, nurture and protect our families by coordinating and overseeing Hope Presbyterian Church’s Christian education to children, including but not limited to Nursery, Children’s Church and Sunday School and on occasion, special events for families. As such, the DCM will provide consistency across programs, act as the key central contact to all those in related ministries and provide long-term vision for the ministry. The DCM will report directly to the Pastor and Session.
In a phrase, the DCM is an advocate for the discipleship of the children at Hope Presbyterian.

Job Requirements
• Member of Hope holding to the Westminster Standards.
• Must have a heart for the sound discipleship of children.
• Knowledgeable about different stages of child development. Education background preferred but not required.
• Effective communicator
• Detail oriented
• Sustain a background check

Responsibilities
• Recruit, vet, and train all adult and teen volunteers for Sunday School, Children’s Church and Nursery.
• Create and oversee comprehensive volunteer schedule
• Choose appropriate curricula for Children’s Church and Sunday School.
• Adapt curriculum for Children’s Church, preparing all materials and communicating the lessons to the volunteers.
• Be in regular communication with volunteers to identify needs, problems, and to provide support and encouragement.
• Be available Sunday mornings to assist volunteers as needed and to meet and direct visiting families.
• Maintain cleanliness and order of classrooms and nursery.
• Monitor supplies in classrooms and nursery.
• Coordinate 1-2 family events during the year (these have included Advent programming, Easter Egg Hunt and Vacation Bible School)
• Be fluent in all Children’s Ministry’s Policies and ensure they are implemented. Periodically review and update policies as needed (secure approval).
• Provide resources for families in terms of reading materials or other venues to help encourage their children to become biblically literate and to think through a biblical perspective.
• Communicate problems, needs and successes to the pastor.
